NEW ARTIST MrGo is the Go To Man of the Moment!

MrGo is the intriguing name of the latest addition to the Acorn stable! Hailing from the south of England and now living and working in the busy metropolitan hub of our capital city, MrGo has found his way on a journey which has taken him right through school and university and several jobs before he finally found his calling...

His exciting Debut Collection, launched through the innovative Wishbone Publishing, has a varied theme but each piece has something to intrigue us...

'Love You to Death'
£295
'Love You to Death' is bold and striking and the contrast of the 'happily ever after' pretty pink roses contrasts with the dark skull... the normality of the light 'sky' compared to the dark patterned 'underground' really makes you look harder and yet what might first repel you now draws you in and intrigues you still further...

'We All Scream'
£295

The photo-realistic quality of 'We All Scream' is stunning, created with a digital painting programme and every stroke done by hand... the deliciousness of strawberry, raspberry, dark cherry and vanilla is all too obvious from the luscious red lips but is this a reminder that we indulge all too often and the scream surrounding the chocolate flake is maybe the helplessness we all feel when faced with the inevitable dilemma of the local ice-cream parlour...

'Bang' Gold-Leaf Edition
£295
The farsical use of a gun which fires a 'BANG' flag from the end is well known in comedic circles but imagine it pink with a half peeled banana for its grip and suddenly the laughter is almost hesitant as we wonder why the clash of shapes and colour... the addition of gold-leaf on the wording of this very limited edition adds class and a certain 'je ne sais quoi'... intriguing...

'Great Escape - Acquiesce'
£295
From the photo-realistic to the cartoon-like, MrGo has shown us the width and breadth of his talent but yet there is still more... In the 'Great Escape' series 'Acquiesce', 'Empire' and 'Shine On' MrGo shows us he is also an incredibly talented figurative artist with a clear natural ability to draw...

The ten pieces in this edition are all limited to just 25 or 45 pieces each and with the ultra-keen prices of this debut collection we are sure to see a fantastic response to the opening song of this most impressive young man!

Not By Royal Command!!

I can't believe that Good Friday is only a week away!

Good Friday, 29th March this year, might not hold much significance for many, apart from the start of Easter weekend and the thankful end to rows of easter eggs in our shops taunting those of us who foolishly gave it up for Lent! (What do you mean I was the only one?!?)

On Good Friday we are having a few drinks here at the gallery to launch our new exhibition with artist James Milroy, entitled 'Waving Royals and other paintings'.

James is travelling up from Stroud to bring the work to us and will be here for the evening from 6.30-8.30pm. We are hoping to pry from him some stories about his experiences painting during the Diamond Jubilee celebrations last summer, not every artist can say they had a Right Royal Summons!

Join Us from 6.30pm... beer, wine and soft drinks will be available along with some tasty treats (not including cucumber sandwiches!)

Tails of the Unexpected...

Here at The Acorn Gallery we are getting used to surprise visitors but it is still always a pleasure to meet and greet a new guest... and so to our latest visitor...

Paul James is over from Ireland and unexpectedly rang to ask if he could pop over and say hello - well naturally we said yes!!

Paul is famous for his almost photographic portrayal of the natural world, including stunning landscapes and true to life animal portraits, usually with a humourous twist!

Streetwise Charlie is one of his top-selling contemporary pieces and more work will follow in that same vein. We have been fortunate enough to reserve two stunning cow canvases named 'Little Madge' and 'Gorgeous George' which will hopefully be in the gallery soon.

Gorgeous George

If you are interested in Pauls work then let us know and we can let you know when the new pieces arrive!

Just to prove that Paul dd pop in see the image below :-)

Excitement Builds!!!!

Well its October!! What a busy last two days of September! We spent all day Monday packing. We shipped out 6 pieces which isn't a lot but it takes some time when you have to build a box as none of the pieces we sent out were of a standard size!!

Yesterday we had a changeover day which is where we put up new stock. It is always typical that when we do a changeover we are busy with customers - unfortunately they don't get to see the gallery at its full potential so apologies to those customers yesterday who saw us in our somewhat disorganised state!

You may have noticed on the website that we have taken down the selection work available from Rolf Harris and Todd White. As a Premier Partner with Washington Green we are no longer permitted to promote artists published by other companies.

Rolf Harris remains very popular and some new pieces were ordered last month and we are hoping that they will arrive very shortly!

In the meantime do please ring the gallery if you are interested and of course if you are passing then we are always happy to talk about the work available.

Just to update you on the top sellers for September - I can reveal that Peter Smith has again stormed to the top of the leader board for the second month in a row! Well done Peter!!

1. Peter Smith
2. Paul Kenton/Bob Dylan
3. John Wilson/Sarah J Szikora

With Peter's new tour 'May Contain Nuts' due out very soon maybe he will make it 3 months in a row!!

Perhaps Jeff Rowland will make a bid for the summit - we will have Jeff in the gallery on 23rd October 2008 between 5-8pm to promote his one man show entitled 'A Brief Encounter'. If you wish to be on the invite list then please contact us.

October promises to be an exciting month and I sit here with great anticipation!!!

What A Month!!!!

First thing I must do is apologise for the lack of any new posts. I have been busy with sales - lots of them!! It has been a cracking month and my thanks go to all those people who have purchased from us. I would especially like to say a big THANK YOU to those people who saw a piece they wanted whilst away and waited to buy until they came back to us - we really appreciate your loyalty!

What else has happened this month..?

Oh yes ... we have been given the details for Bob Dylan's much awaited release of 29 hand signed images from his 'Drawn Blank Series'. It has been said that this could sell out on the day of release so watch out for further information and do ask if you're passing although the actual launch date is Saturday 14th June! Mark it in your diary - champagne will be served so do come along and join us!

We are so excited about this release - Bob Dylan is a music legend and for Washington Green to have negotiated the release of his artwork is a real feather in their cap!! More information and images will be updated on the website as soon as possible www.theacorngallery.co.uk. However if you are interested in this work then please contact us ASAP as it will be sold on a first come first served basis.

It was sad to hear about the death of Beryl Cook this week. She was a great lady who had a wicked sense of humour which is portrayed in her artwork. Her style is well known and easily recognised by many - in fact other work is often said to be 'in the style of Beryl Cook' such is her appeal!

If you have any of her signed limited editions then I would hold on to them as they will in my opinion go up in value.

And finally my daughter turned 15 (going on 30) this week which means she is getting to that age where it isn't cool to hold my hand or give me hugs and kisses any more but yet mum can have as many hugs and kisses as she wants!! Whats going on there then?
